Your Life Buckets

Are you refilling them?

Happy Sunday!

It’s half term (school holidays) in the UK, and not to mention, last weekend was the Easter break weekend. As how school holidays are in any country, parents will take their kid(s) off to somewhere for a holiday or plan in different activities for them.

I don’t have any kids, and I can only imagine from all the stories my colleagues, friends and other family members tell me… and of course, from my childhood.
Although, these days, kids are so different from when I was a kid.

For some people, school holidays can be stressful but yet rewarding. It’s a balance between demands of a parent, work (if you’re not taking the whole 2 weeks off) and spending time with people you love.

APRIL FOCUS
Balancing Drive & Mind: Life Buckets

It was a few years ago where I read somewhere (yeap, my bad for not remembering the book!) that we all have a few ‘buckets’ in ourselves. These buckets are filled with all the good stuff.

Buckets can be things that are important to you, or things that you enjoy doing that fulfill you.

Some people might have their buckets as: physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and relational.

Often, at different times, the level of our buckets can differ. It really depends on how much time, energy and effort that we are giving to each of them.

… and sometimes, you just deplete one bucket more than the others.

DEEP DIVE
Replenishing Our Buckets

Are you aware of your buckets’ level?

Refilling our buckets is important!
(or in other words, recharging ourselves)

Here are a few ways that work for me, and hopefully will help you too.

🤗 Expectations! Let’s lower that down a teeny bit
Cut yourself a little slack. We always have high expectations of ourselves and most of the time people appreciate and see that.

🥰 Make a list of things that makes you feel good/great/amazing
Take a quick 10–15 minutes to write down all the things that you can do that makes you feel great.

🤸 Go for a walk (or exercise)
It doesn’t have to be a full-on exercise, but you can always take a walk — clear your mind and get some fresh air.

😴 Get good and sufficient sleep
Sleep is important as it’s the best charger. Maintain a routine before you go to sleep and help with you getting to sleep and having a good one.

▶️ There are many ways to recharge yourself. Try exploring some of them and see what works best for you.

It can be tedious and time consuming. If you’re like me — I’ll be thinking ‘Argghh.. what a waste of time, I should be doing xyz with that time’ or ‘I don’t have time for this’. If you’re thinking along those lines, then maybe you need this more than you think.

‼️IMPORTANT: You need to be aware of how you are feeling and take steps to maintain a balance and not leave it till you’re close to the bottom of your buckets.

I have an expanded version if you like to know more about the methods above. Here’s the link to the article.
